MARGAO: Congress MLA Luizinho Faleiro on Friday urged the South Goa District Collector for urgent need to re-organise Navelim Health Centre for testing and vaccination programme.
In a letter to the District Collector, Luizinho suggested few places for additional vaccination centres.
“It is very sad to note that there is utter confusion and total mismanagement for rapid tests people stand in the queue, early in the morning from 6 whereas the health centre commences testing only after 10.30 am as they are short-staffed,” he said.
He also said since people don’t get rapid test reports within one hour they return home as they get total exhausted after standing in the queue for more than four hours. Thereby there is imminent danger of spreading the infections.
“I feel that there should be additional staff and facilities posted in Navelim so that people get the test and take necessary action for admission in different hospital or self-isolation/quarantine,” Luizinho mentioned.
He further stated that as discussed the premises for additional testing can be made available at Dr Francisco Luis Gomes Hall in Navelim Rosary Stadium, opp the Church, where he has already taken permission from Fr Arlino de Melo, vicar of the Rosary Church. As a short term measure, the vaccination programme may be started in two places both at Navelim Health Centre as they have got the entire infrastructure in place and one more place may be opened at Rosary College where he understands there is already the necessary infrastructure.
The MLA has also suggested few more places such as the Educational Institute, Navelim, and Government School, Mandopa and Telaulim, besides government schools at Aquem-Baixo, Davorlim, Housing Board-Rumdamol and Davorlim.
As there is already an emergency for beds, oxygen, ventilators etc we may re-commission the indoor stadium at Navelim, which was successfully used during the lockdown period, he stated.
