MARGAO: The Opposition MLAs on Thursday submitted a memorandum to the South Goa Collector “exposing” the illegal land acquisition for the double tracking project.
The MLAs – Vijai Sardesai, Digambar Kamat, Churchill Alemao, Prasad Gaonkar, Jayesh Salgaonkar and Aleixo Reginaldo Lourenco – along with representatives of the Goencho Ekvott submitted a memorandum to the South Goa Collector.
The group demanded that the land acquisition proceedings that were supposed to be held in the evening at Vasco under the Railways Act be stopped.
Opposition Leader Digambar Kamat said they have submitted a memorandum requesting the South Goa Collector to stop illegal land acquisition for the railway double tracking project and to cancel personal hearings scheduled on Thursday under Railways Act. “There is no need to invoke the Railways Act while the acquisition can be done through the Fair Compensation Act,” he added.
Vijai Sardesai alleged that the illegal land acquisition for the double tracking project is being done using the divide and rule policy by the government.
