MARGAO: The Margao Municipal Council (MMC) has announced its carnival programme – a three-day mega event including performances by famous Konkani singers, stand-up comedians and bands from across the country. The programme will take place from February 7 to 9.
In a statement issued on Saturday, the carnival committee pointed out that it had seen almost 10,000 people attending the one-day carnival programmes of the past. Since it is organizing a three-day event this year, it is anticipating a larger turnout.
On February 7, the Carnival float parade will be organized along the Ravindra Bhavan Avenue. The parade will include the top floats in Goa, espousing the carnival heritage of the State. It will be followed by a musical evening at the SGPDA parking lot.
On February 8, a kid’s theme park – the first of its kind in Goa – will be set up at the SGPDA parking lot and will include bouncing castles, cartoon character mascots, games and surprises.
On February 9, ‘Traditional Konkani Night’ will be organized at the SGPDA parking lot. Traditional khell tiatrs from all wards of Fatorda and Margao will be performed at various locations in Margao. The main attractions for the day will be Sonia Sirsat, who is one of India’s best fadistas, Cielda Pereira of ‘Nachomia Kumpasar’ fame, and Francis de Tuem.
