VASCO: Citing violation of High Court directives, Additional District Magistrate, South Goa, LSR Pereira has directed the Mormugao Municipal Council (MMC) to remove two hoardings installed by the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) beside the highway, opposite the integrated terminal building of Dabolim airport.
The order was issued to the MMC Chief Officer on December 10; the CO has been directed to remove the hoardings and submit a compliance report. Interestingly, Pereira himself is the Chief Officer.
The hoardings issue had come up in a council meeting on Monday. When few councillors raised objections to the installation of two big hoardings opposite Dabolim airport, Pereira issued a stop work order for the same.
He stated, “Yes, I have issued directions to remove the hoardings as the same has been installed in clear violation of High Court directives.”
Meanwhile, Mormugao Deputy Collector Sabaji Shetye has also issued a notice seeking a report from the NHAI.
According to him, he had received a reference from the Collector’s office on the illegal hoardings opposite the airport.
“Soon after I had received the reference from higher authorities, I had issued directions to NHAI officials to submit all reports on the hoardings, including permissions obtained, if any, by Friday. Once the report is received, I will forward the same to the collector’s office. Accordingly, action will be taken,” said Shetye.
