MARGAO: Margao Municipal Council Chairperson Babita Angle Prabhudessai has in a meeting warned the petroleum companies running pumps in the Margao town. At the meeting she has sent a clear signal to all the erring companies to either to pay the Rs 60 lakh rent arrears or get dislodged from the property.
The meeting which was attended by the representatives of the oil companies had to face the flak of the chairperson.
She warned the companies to pay the outstanding dues of 60 lakhs or the MMC will pull back the lease agreement and acquire the land.
The standoff between the oil companies and the MMC over the revised rent has been going on for quite some time now. The companies have disagreed to pay the new rents and have been insisting on the old rates. However, the MMC is not willing to rollback on rent increase and now has decided not to back down.
Two defaulter petrol pumps have agreed to pay the Rs 20 lakh dues with a condition that the council should lease the land back to them.
