MARGAO: The red and off white colour combination adorning the centenary old Margao Municipal building may undergo a change.
If the plan unveiled by the civic body is any indication, the heritage building may sport a light yellow shade for a month from now. For, the Margao Municipal Council headed by Chairperson Arthur D’Silva has decided to replace the traditional shade of the building with a coat of light yellow colour.
While many an eyebrow was raised as labourers were bracing up to paint the Municipal building, the Chairperson put at rest all speculations over the colour of the building.
“I have decided with advise from the City Fathers to change the colour of the building. We have decided to go in for a light yellow shade replacing the traditional red and off white colour”, he said.
“It’s fifty years since the Portuguese were forced to leave Goa, and I don’t see any reason why the colour of the building should not change. Even in Panjim, many of the buildings sporting the red and white colour have made way for other shades. The Margao Municipal building cannot be an exception”, he said.
Rough estimates have put the total expenses for painting the Municipal building to around Rs 4-5 lakhs. The Civic body have also decided to paint the building interior and the total painting work is estimated to cost Rs 11-12 lakhs.
