A member of the Cell and former MMC Chairperson Savio Coutinho said that he has no dispute over the Council decision. He, however, said the Council’s decision to stuff the Cell with Councillors had no meaning since the City Fathers are already part of the Cell. “This only goes to show their interest in the solid waste management in the city,” Coutinho said.

The meeting which was convened to primarily seek nod of the City Fathers for the draft Memorandum of Understanding to be inked with the Self Help Group saw Councillors directing their tirade at the Cell.
After the meeting, Chairperson Gonzaco Rebello said that he would write to the DMA informing the government of the Council decision.
“I am aware that the Cell was constituted by the DMA and not by the Civic body. But, I will communicate today’s Council’s decision to the DMA’s office,” Gonzaco said.
A couple of agitated Councillors led by Damu Shirodkar demanded to know from the chairperson the fate of the four cycles gifted by the DMA for garbage management.
He demanded an inquiry into the matter and ensure the return of the cycles back to the civic body.
Incidentally, the MMC Chairperson denied that the City Fathers came to blows during discussions at the closed door meeting, even though visitors in the corridors said they heard loud shouts of Councillors inside the chairperson’s chamber.
