MMC cautions citizens on tax payments

MARGAO, MARCH 24
The Margao Municipal Council has cautioned owners of properties and residents to pay the house tax and other taxes within the stipulated time to avoid levying of interest and fines provided in the bye-laws.
The Civic body has informed that the owners of properties and households are required to pay the house tax, trades and occupation license fees, hoardings and signboard tax, rents of municipal properties and non-motorizes vehicles/handcarts license fees for the year 2010-2011 from April 1, 2010 to May 31, 2010.
MMC chief Savio Coutinho and Chief Officer Prasanna Acharya said that payment effected after May 31, 2010 will be subject to levy of interest and fines as provided in the bye-laws.
Meanwhile, the MMC has informed that the Civic body will not accept payments of house tax, rent, trades and signboard licenses, besides construction license fees from March 29-31 due to the closing of the accounts for the year 2009-2010.
