MARGAO: The Margao Municipal Council (MMC) anti-encroachment team, on Wednesday, raided areas near BPS Sports Club, Harmonia Club and the Aquem power house and cleared encroachments by commercial establishments.
The team, led by Market Inspector Anil Shirodkar, confiscated goods worth over Rs 1.5 lakh and cleared a stall that had been installed overnight near the power house, and which was allegedly being used for matka. The goods include mattresses, pillows and other household materials, besides a movable stall worth Rs 1 lakh.
The confiscated goods have been kept at the MMC building and will be released after the prescribed fines are paid by the violators. The MMC has decided to make its anti-encroachment drive a continuous activity.
