MARGAO: Margao Municipal workers on Thursday cleared encroachments in the new market area of the city.
The team led by market inspector Mohan Arlekar went about the work this morning, clearing encroachments inside the market and along the roadside.
Market inspector Mohan Arlekar said the drive was carried out on the instructions of Chief Officer, Sandhya Kamat. He put the value of confiscated goods at Rs 50,000.
Replying to a question, he said the anti-encroachment drive will be continued as per the instruction. “Today, we have removed footwear and other items displayed for sale near the Chapel. There were complaints that footwear is being displayed and sold right near the Chapel”, Arlekar said.
