MMC CO orders inquiry into rent-a-bike parking

MARGAO: Margao Municipal Council Chief Officer Agnelo Fernandes on Thursday ordered an internal inquiry with regard to alleged illegal parking of rent-a-bike in and around the municipal building. 

The Chief Officer directed the Technical Section of the municipality to report about the exact position of whether rent-a-bike is permitted or they are illegally using the parking space around the municipal building.

It may be recalled that in the recently held council meeting many councillors had expressed frustration over the alleged illegal parking of many rent-a-bike around the building, creating traffic problems. 

It was also brought to the notice of Chairperson Lyndon Pereira to act on illegal parking. Councillors Ghanashyam Shirodkar, Mahesh Amonkar, besides many others had demanded to take action with the help of Traffic Police or Transport Department. 

Taking serious note of the complaint by the councillors Chief Officer has initiated an inquiry into the matter. “If there is a notification of the rent-a-bike stand, the same may be produced,” stated the CO. 

He has given seven days time to the concerned officer to submit the report about the same.

Besides councillors, even locals have been complaining about the parking space being utilised by many bike and car owners for a very long period of time. Several vehicles are noticed parking for many days, depriving the others to utilise the space.
