MARGAO: The Margao Municipal Council as assured started the anti-encroachment drive and seized goods of several vendors who were in unauthorised occupation of spaces, on Monday.
The newly appointed Chief Officer Agnelo Fernandes while taking charge of the office had warned that he will take action against the encroachments from Monday.

The goods that include fruits, vegetables and fish worth at least Rs 50,000 were seized by the officials from the market areas of Margao. There was a spurt of self-styled vendors after the lockdown and were sitting and occupying spaces, selling everything that was earlier available in the designated markets.
There was a pressing demand from the market vendors to the MMC to get the encroachment cleared.
Chief Officer Fernandes said, “There was a demand to clear the encroachments and there were police complaints filed also against this. We have taken action considering this.”
The Chief Officer said that this action will continue on daily basis. The confiscated eatables were given to Provedoria, Matruchaya, Asra and other organisations and establishments working for home for the aged and orphans.
