MARGAO: Even as Margao Municipal Council (MMC) officials on Monday confiscated goods of the vendors, who had not vacated the space allotted to them for the Holy Spirit feast fair on the SGPDA grounds, Chief Officer Johnson Fernandes has sought details of fair revenue collection for the last few years.
Sunday was supposed to be the last date of the fair. However, some vendors had not vacated the space allotted to them forcing the MMC to raid and seize their goods. Clothes, vases, tables and stools along with plastic flowers and other things were confiscated and brought to the MMC Monday evening.
Meanwhile, the Shadow Council of Margao has complimented the chief officer for collecting nearly Rs 21 lakh from the Holy Spirit feast fair and reiterated that its charge of a scam in allotting the sopo collection at the feast fair last year was proved.
Savio Coutinho pointed out that last year though a bigger area was used to set up the fair opposite the KTC bus stand, only Rs 12 lakh were collected from the contractor while this year as on May 26, the MMC has collected Rs 21 lakh.
Admitting that around Rs 21 lakh were collected, Chief Officer Johnson Fernandes said he needs some time as he has sought details regarding the collection of not only this year but also of the last few years.
