Vasco: Mormugao Municipal Council (MMC) councillor Shami Krishna Salkar has written a letter to the Chief Officer requesting him to look into the dangerous and dilapidated buildings in the city and initiate immediate action for the safety of the people.
In the letter, Salkar specifically referred to the buildings, namely opposite the police station, the building housing Bank of Maharashtra (next to IDBI bank), Happy Apartments, Moti Sadan, Kossambe Building, MMC staff quarters and Gosalia Building, which are in a bad condition.
“It may be noted that the general public use the pathways below these building and it is noticed that pieces of concrete slabs keep falling. The public have narrowly missed being hit by these concrete pieces a number of times. These buildings are in a pathetic condition with pieces of slabs collapsing almost every day. It feels like we are waiting for a tragedy to occur in front of our eyes”, the letter further stated.
Chief Officer Jayant Tari also agreed to Salkar and mentioned that immediate solution could be taken by cordoning or displaying signboards outside these buildings to alert commuters. Tari assured to look into the matter.
