MARGAO: Councillors of Margao Municipal Council on Friday called on the Chief Officer to know the status of the Sonsodo waste treatment plant and demanded a power-point presentation on the garbage dumping site.
They point blank told the Chief Officer Sandhya Kamat that though the city fathers are not part of the High Powered Committee on Sonsodo headed by the Chief Minister, they are responsible for the citizens and hence should be kept informed about the status of the Sonsodo project.
Around 14 councillors, including Vice-Chairperson Pratima Coutinho were holed up with the Chief Officer in her chamber for quite some time. They, during the course of the meeting, demanded that the city fathers be taken to Sonsodo for an inspection of the project.
Pratima said the Chief Minister may be heading the High Powered Committee on Sonsodo, but finally the councillors were responsible to the citizens.
