VASCO: Two councillors from Mormugao Municipal Council took up the cleaning of the major nullah at Mestawado with the help of earthmover machinery on Monday.

The city councillor claimed that despite of several requests to the Water Resource Department, the desilting of major nullah at Mestawada was neglected for around four years.
The main nullah at Mestawada, which was awaiting desilting and cleaning process for the past four years, was at last attended by the ward councillor and the city councillor. Since past two days, the desilting and cleaning work of this nullah is in progress.
Speaking to the media persons Girish Borkar, husband of Mestawado Councillor Rochana Borkar said that for the past four years they have been requesting the WRD to desilt and clean up the major nullah at Mestawado, which had been chocked and needed immediate cleaning but the plea went unheard.
He further stated that this major nullah starts from Bhutebhat and wind through Belabai area, till the rear side of the Taniya Hotel. Last week, we had done cleaning work at Belabai area. During the rainy season, some farmers who do agricultural activities have to face water logging problem due to the chocked nullah at Mestawado area.
“My wife Councillor Rochana asked me to put an earthmover to clean up the nullah so that no residents should face the problem because of this chocked nullah,” Girish added.
City Councillor Krishna (Daji) Salkar appreciated Councillor Rochana and her husband for undertaking the desilting work.
Salkar said that the WRD was requested many times to desilt this nullah but for the past four years it is lying as it is. Since last two days, the ward councillor has taken up the desilting work at her own expense which is appreciable.
