In an interesting development, the Margao Municipal Council has decided to take possession of the land housing the old bus stand since the bus stand has been de-notified by the South Goa district Magistrate.
MMC Chief Officer Prasanna Acharya said that the Civic body would pursue the matter with the transport and traffic department to ensure the old bus stand land comes back in the possession of the Municipality.
“The district Magistrate has already denotified the old bus stand. This means, the bus stand no long exists as per the notification”, Acharya said, adding that the Civic body would take the assistance of the traffic and transport departments to take possession of the land.
Acharya told the Council meeting on Thursday that Councilors can park their vehicles at the old bus stand once the land is reverted back to the Civic body.
Moves to shut down the old bus stand had come under severe flak from short distance route operators, commuters and the common man, besides kiosk owners. earning their livelihood from the business at the bus stand.
