MAPUSA: The Mapusa Municipal Council on Tuesday discussed on the government guidelines to be followed for celebration of Ganesh Chaturthi in the Mapusa Municipality jurisdiction, on Tuesday.
The meeting chaired by Chairperson Ryan Braganza and attended by the councillors, representatives of Sarvajanik Ganeshotsav Mandals, representatives of NGOs, Mapusa Police, Mapusa Traffic Cell officials and other stakeholders.
During the meeting, it was decided to avoid crowding and to have smooth movement of traffic and to have a timetable for each ward for immersion of the Ganesh idols between 6 pm and 10 pm.
“We have made a tentative chart with timing set for each ward for immersion of the Ganesh idols along with different spots for the immersions at Karaswada, Kuchelim, Khorlim, Tar River and this year we are having a artificial pond for temporary use at Bodgini for immersion,” Chairperson Braganza informed.
The immersion timings per ward are as follows: 6 pm to 7 pm for Morod, Angod, Ansabhat — Ward No. 9, 19, 10 and 13. 7 pm to 8 pm for Ward No. 14, 15, 16, 17 and 18. 8 pm to 9 pm for Ward No 5, 6, 11 and 12, and 9 pm to 10 pm for Ward No. 7, 3 and 20.
“Similarly we have received suggestions to have ‘Matoli Bazaar’ at different spots to reduce the crowding. Final decision on this will be taken by Thursday,” Braganza said.
