Margao: After the failed attempts of hiring contract daily wage laborers the MMC has not floated tenders for the pre-monsoon works. The date for arrival of monsoons has already been announced and are predicted to be intense this year.
However the MMC is having a tough time passing through the hurdle of hiring daily wage workers for the same. The MMC has finally decided to execute the works through contractors and has now floated 2 tenders of Rs 3.75 lakh each for the work.
Struggle for laborers and for completion of the premonsoon work on time is a common complaint of the MMC. Because of the low remuneration no one opts for the MMC works which results in delay of the work. Even after the tarring of the roads, drains are yet to be cleaned to avoid choking and overflowing. The Contractors will be have to apply for winning of the tender in 10 days.
“We are not concerned how many laborers the contractor will employ but all the jobs which are done by the daily wage workers of MMC will have to be done by them” said Y.B Tawde. Chief Officer of MMC.
