MMC optimistic of garbage treatment plant at Sonsodo
HERALD REPORTER
MARGAO, JUNE 17
Will a garbage treatment plant finally become a reality at the Sonsodo waste dumping site by April 30, 2010?
Despite failed deadlines, the Civic body strongly believes that a land fill site and a waste treatment plant will be set up at Sonsodo by April next year. An undertaking to this effect will be filed in the High Court next week.
Chairperson Savio Coutinho told a special meeting that the Civic body has received two proposals to the tender inviting Expression of Interest to set up a 50 ton waste treatment plant at Sonsodo.
Giving a time-bound schedule to the Council at the meeting, Coutinho said Council will ask both the companies Fomento-IL&FS combine and Hyderabad-based Ramky Enviro Engineering Ltd to submit a detail proposal and the financial implications involved in setting and running the plant.
This process, he said, will get underway soon and expressed confidence that the Civic body will finalise the company by August 31.
Both the companies have given a time schedule to set up the plant and machinery within six months to 12 months.
Councilor Ganashyam Shirodkar told the Civic body to tread a cautious path given the bitter experience of the Council with companies engaged to treat the waste. He suggested that a technical team be sent to verify the claims of the two companies vying to win the contract. Chief Officer Y B Tawde, however, told the Councilors that the Civic body has only prepared a time schedule as per the directions of the High Court.
The Civic body has decided to request both Fomento and Ramky to submit the proposals, including the financial and commercial proposals, which have been silent in their offer bid.
