MARGAO: The Margao Municipal Council (MMC) is considering changing the venue of the annual carnival parade of Margao due to traffic snarls caused at the present venue.
The MMC convened a special meeting on Thursday to discuss the carnival programme, which will now be celebrated for four days and may be held in collaboration with a local organisation ‘We for Fatorda’.
The carnival committee was also constituted with MMC Chairperson Babita Prabhudessai as chairperson. The meet was held early as the deadline for submitting the names of the committee members to the Tourism Department is December 28. Briefing the press after the meeting, Babita stated that the carnival celebrations would be on February 6-9, but “Due to traffic problems caused by the carnival parade, the carnival committee is thinking of having the parade at the Ravindra Bhavan stretch.
However, the route is subject to discussion, which will be done soon.”
“There were plans to make the carnival even better by making proper seating and parking arrangements for the people and also putting up screens on which people could watch the parades and programmes,” she added.
