MARGAO:  The Margao Municipal Council on Friday has vowed to put in place full proof fire fighting measures in the more than a century old municipal building.
While the Civic body has procured 12 fire extinguishers to meet the short term fire fighting requirements, the Municipality has now plans to building a dedicated tank to meet the requirements.
And, to ensure that Municipal employees have basic knowledge of fire fighting operation, Chief Officer Deepali Naik on Friday organised a fire fighting demonstration to sensitize the staff on the basics of fire fighting. “For the first time, fire extinguishers made their presence felt in the Municipal building to take care of minor fires. We plan to put a full proof fire fighting plan in due course of time,” she said.
Replying to a question that the Municipality is dragging its feet to build a dedicated overhead water tank to meet the fire fighting requirements of the congested municipal markets, Naik said the matter is under consideration and will be addressed on a priority basis.
Russel Faleiro, Manager, Fire Protection, Go Safe guided and assisted the Municipal employees on the finer points in fire fighting.
