However, in his complaint to the Margao police, Arabekar alleged that Lobo and activists Croydon Medeira and Nelson Fernandes assaulted, manhandled, and prevented him from doing his official duty. The incident has further increased the anti-MMC sentiment amongst the locals.
The MMC workers union has demanded the arrest of the assailants before Monday, failing which they will go on a pen-down strike. Meanwhile, Ethel alleged that Viraj pushed her on the chest, thereby outraging her modesty.
Observing that the issue was not likely to be resolved, the locals at the municipal hall started to shout and boo the chairperson and councillors, while the sanitary inspector tried to leave the hall by cutting through the agitated crowd. Ethel, Nelson and Croydon tried to stop him, but he pushed past them after an argument.
The crowd later assembled in the chairperson’s office and demanded Arabekar’s immediate suspension for outraging Ethel’s modesty. They also raised other issues affecting Margao.
