MMC staff served memos for not working on alternate days
HERALD REPORTER
MARGAO, APRIL 27
It’s nearly a month since the ongoing Census work got underway on April 1, but confusion still prevails whether the employees roped in for the work are required to work alternate days in their respective departments.
This became apparent when the Margao Municipal Chief Officer, Y B Tawde served memos to the civic employees roped in by the district authorities for the Census work.
As most of these employees are found conspicuous by their absence in the municipality, the Chief Officer issued the memos to the staff seeking explanation over their absence on alternate days.
The civic employees are believed to have maintained that they have till date not received any circular from the Census authorities to report to their department every alternate day.
The MMC Chief Officer told Herald that the civic or other employees roped in for the Census work are required to work one day on the field and report to office the next day. He, however, hastened to add that the employees have claimed that they have not received the circular mandating them to work on the Census operations every alternate day.
Incidentally, confusion over the question whether the employees are required to work continuously vis-à-vis the census operations or work on alternate days have not been resolved till date, putting the employees roped in for the Census work in a tight spot.
