MARGAO: Faced with the mounting unpaid taxes by business establishments, the Margao Municipal Council (MMC) has now turned its focus on telecom towers within city limits, said Agnelo Fernandes, Chief Officer.
He was speaking on the occasion of inauguration of a new single cabin Zenon vehicle recently purchased by the Municipality. Fernandes said there are several telecom towers operating within the city which come under the MMC property tax ambit.

CO has asked the concerned sections of MMC for a detailed report, MMC ward wise on the location of telecom towers within the city.
“The MMC is faced with non-repayment of taxes from biz establishments and that has resulted in a huge amount of unpaid outstanding taxes, which the council is planning to resolve at the earliest,” said Fernandes.
He further made it clear that he has neither bias nor anything against anyone including the business community of Margao, but is there to assist them in every possible way to do good business especially after the post COVID 19 era.
Lyndon Pereira, Chairperson said that this vehicle will be utilised for the revenue recovery purposes.
Meanwhile, the Shadow Council for Margao congratulated the MMC for adding another vehicle to its fleet of vehicles.
“However, while the Council finds difficulties for revenue recovery tasks for want of vehicles, we wonder if they ever realised whether the dog shelter also required a dog van for effective ABC programme,” asked SCM Convener Savio Coutinho.
