VASCO: To earn more revenue from the vendors who will take part in the Vasco Saptah fair, the Mormugao Municipal council (MMC) has decided to hike the stalls’ licence fees. The MMC has also decided to have uniformity in all the stalls that will be erected for the fair, and thus, it has decided to appoint a contractor who will ensure uniformity and to allot the stalls to the vendors at little higher price.
“For the last several years, the stall license fee collected by the MMC from the vendors has not been increased. Thus, from this year, we have decided to erect uniform stalls by giving the work to a contractor. The MMC will then provide ready stalls to the vendors for a little higher price,” said MMC Chairperson Deepak Naik.
He further said, “We have decided to introduce few more changes in the stall allotment procedure. From this year, we will not confuse traditional vendors by changing their traditional fair slots, but areas that are not occupied by traditional vendors will be auctioned or allotted on first come, first serve basis. Also, we were earlier collecting daily fees from the vendors having stalls at the fair, but from this year, we will collect a one-time fee at the time of issuing licenses to the vendors.”
He also said that the MMC would start the process of allotting stalls from June and not in the week before the start of the Saptah fair as many agents take undue advantage of the last moment stall allotment.
“Although a decision has been taken to ensure that that annual Damodar Saptah fair becomes successful this year, the council is yet to endorse the decision. We will table the proposals before the councillors in the forthcoming Saptah meeting to adopt a resolution on the same,” said Naik.
