MMC to issue work order of two more 5 TPD waste treatment plants soon

Green signal received from Municipal Administration, GSUDA

MARGAO: Margao Municipal Council (MMC) is going to issue work orders for two more 5 TPD waste treatment plants in coming days, as Directorate of Municipal Administration, besides Goa State Urban Development Agency (GSUDA) has already given green signal to the civic body.

On Friday, Margao MLA Digambar Kamat at the short meeting at Margao made a point to review the said two 5 TPD waste treatment plants, where Hussain Shah Muzawar, senior project engineer, GSUDA informed that they have already given green signal to the civic body to go ahead with the plants.

As discussed in the meeting it is now up to the MMC to go ahead with work orders.

As informed by Lyndon Pereira, who was also present at the meeting, the civic body was waiting for the satisfactory report of the present 5 TPD waste treatment plant started at the South Goa Planning and Development Authority market (SGPDA).

“It is up to the MMC to decide and take further action with regard to issuing the work orders to the concerned agencies for putting up the two more 5 TPD plants; one at wholesale fish market and another one near the parking lot of SGPDA.

Civic body is facing a tough time with regard to the waste generated in Margao and Fatorda. The recent incidents of fire and wall collapse of the old treatment plant at Sonsoddo have resulted in more tensions to the MMC.

Taking serious note of the same, Kamat made a point on Friday to insist the MMC and GSUDA, besides the Directorate of Municipal Administration to expedite the matter at the earliest. The issue pertaining to the Sonsoddo will be discussed at the meeting which is likely to be held at Panjim next Tuesday.

The MLA has also instructed the MMC not to delay in issuing the work orders, keeping in mind the garbage issue in Margao.

“The civic body was asked to go ahead with the work order of two more 5 TPD plants in Margao. However we also requested to wait for the satisfactory report of the 5 TPD plant, which is already functional in Margao,” said Lyndon Pereira, chairperson of MMC.
