MARGAO: Margao Municipal Council Chairperson Lyndon Pereira on Saturday said action will be initiated against all staff and other workers who have not attended the function organised on the occasion of Gandhi Jayanti, despite the order.
The MMC had issued a circular to all the regular staff, besides contract and daily wages workers to attend the programme organised by the civic body on the occasion of Gandhi Jayanti. However, it was noticed that many did not attend it and several others skipped the function silently by signing the muster roll.
There was hardly a few MMC staff who witnessed the rally organised by the MMC. “I will move a note on Monday to the Chief Officer to initiate action against the regular staff, and other workers who failed to attend the function or despaired from the office by signing the muster roll,” said the chairperson.
He further said that even the government had made it mandatory to attend the programme on the occasion of Gandhi Jayanti. Several other government servants were seen attending the programmes, mostly related to cleanliness drives at their respective offices. However, it was sad to notice that MMC workers and staff failed to give importance to the Father of Nation.
“It was not fair from the part of MMC staff and other workers. It was a programme of a few hours. We had even issued a circular to all the staff urging them to attend the function,” said Lyndon.
As informed by the MMC sources, many staff and other workers had been seen in the office but they managed to skip the function soon after signing the muster roll. The chairperson said that all will be taken to task for not following the orders. “I will see to it that the Chief Officer takes action against all such workers and staff,” he stated.
Speaking to the media persons, few who made their presence felt at the function expressed anger over the issue, and demanded action.
