MMC vice chairperson tenders resignation

In a sudden development, the Vice-Chairperson of Margao Municipal Council Babita Naik has tendered her resignation on Thursday.
The resignation was handed over to the Margao Municipal Chairperson Savio Coutinho to take further decision on her letter.
When contacted, Coutinho confirmed having received the resignation letter from the vice-chairperson and said he would intimate the development to the notice of the Congress leaders before forwarding the same to the office of the Director of Municipal Administration.
Sources in the ruling body said Babita has quit office to pave way for Councillor Raju Naik to take over the reigns of office. It is learnt that the ruling body had an understanding that Babita would preside over the post of vice-chairperson for a year and later step down from office to pave way for Raju to take over.
Sources said though the understanding was arrived at the meeting of the ruling members and party leaders, the matter will again be discussed with all concerned before Babita finally quits office.
