MAPUSA: Mapusa Municipal Council at its special council meeting on Thursday passed a resolution to send proposal to Goa State Agriculture Board to make the 5000 sq mt land located behind the Mapusa yard as hawkers zone.
Chairperson Rohan Kavlekar informed that with redevelopment of Mapusa Municipal Market, the council had decided to shift the vendors. However, previously it was decided that MMC would shift the vendors in the area of 5000 sq mt which was suppose to be marked for the municipality under TCP scheme, but since the Council does not know how long it would take for the land marking under TCP scheme, the municipality took a resolution to send a proposal to state agriculture board requesting to use area behind the yard to make as hawkers zone.
The other resolution passed by the council was to invite expression of interest for the proposed garbage treatment plant at Kunchelim.
Earlier, a private company approached the MMC with an offer to construct the plant free of cost. But when council checked history of the company it was found be a new company and this plant will be their first project.
Besides, the company’s proposal to take the plant on three-year was not acceptable to the municipality.
Therefore, the municipality has decided to go for expression of interest and see if more companies take the offer.
MMC has also decided to buy a compactor, a JCB, a truck and jeep to tackle the garbage issue in municipal jurisdiction.
