PANJIM: The Minerals and Metals Trading Corporation Limited (MMTC) has offered to assist the State government to facilitate marketing iron ore at the best possible price in the international market. The agency has assured to do so in a transparent and time-bound manner.
MMTC has been involved in the export of minerals for the last five decades and is a canalized agency of the centre for high-grade iron ore (+64% FE). A statement from the government said, “It has also assured to offer its service for facilitating marketing of Goan iron ore at best possible price in international market in very transparent and time-bound manner.”
The mining industry, which is expected to start fresh extraction from October, was apprehensive of its prospects due to low prices for ore in the international market besides poor demand for low-grade ore.
A delegation led by MMTC MD Ved Prakash, along with P K Das, A F Sequeira and K A Narasimhan met Chief Minister Parsekar.
Parsekar at the Secretariat.
Parsekar, along with acting Chief Secretary R K Srivastava and Mines Director Prasanna Acharya requested MMTC to submit a proposal wherein the government could explore the possibility of moving ahead.
