PANJIM: In a bid to strengthen security around the country’s borders, the Ministry of Defence has decided to manufacture the ‘next generation router’ for telecommunications.
“We cannot rely on routers imported from other countries. It should be manufactured in India. We cannot have routers which function from abroad where there might be bugs to sabotage or cause leakage of information and data,” Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar said at the Golden Jubilee Celebration of Goa Engineering College on Saturday.
He said India should have routers created within the country for at least important networking. “We are also working on the next generation router. If you don’t want your telecommunication to be leaked, then the router should be controlled by you,” he added.
The former State chief minister revealed that the ministry has signed an agreement with Advanced Numerical Research and Analysis Group (ANURAG) to manufacture the router and offered GEC the chance to develop such a sophisticated system.
“We have signed an agreement with ANURAG to develop second-stage router. Why can’t an institute like Goa Engineering College do it?” he said adding that it was unfortunate that no the Goa-based technical institute thought of taking advantage of a Goan Defence Minister to propose a tie-up with organizations like DRDO.
