PANJIM: Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi and Manohar Parrikar-led ‘parivartan government in Goa’ factors failed to work for BJP in the Karnataka assembly polls, Congress party said on Wednesday.
The Congress leaders have hailed party’s victory in Karnataka polls and described it as a “backlash from the people for the corruption and misrule of BJP in that state.”
They also said that the victory is like a wave that would continue in favour of Congress for the next round of assembly elections in four states and later in the Lok Sabha polls as well.
On the other hand, the Goa unit of BJP targeted B S Yeddyurappa for playing spoil-spot in the Karnataka polls.
Addressing a press conference, Congress legislative party spokesman Aleixo Reginaldo Lourenco said that Congress victory in Karnataka proved that people are loyal to the party. “People voted for Congress as they wanted Congress,” he said.
“Modi and Parrikar’s parivartan factors did not work for BJP,” he commented.
Goa Pradesh Congress Committee president Subhash Shirodkar said, ‘The Karnataka poll results have sent a message that people of India are with the Congress and its effect will be also seen in the four states of Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Delhi and Chhattisgarh.
Congressman Ramakant Khalap said, “There were number of factors like anti-corruption wave, frustration against the BJP and the party’s misadministration.” He said that people are always in favour of good governance and not against misrule or corruption.
When contacted, BJP state president Vinay Tendulkar said that rebel Yeddyurappa acted against the party and made all efforts to defeat it.
