Modi has been monitoring the progress on the Mopa proposal, the CM said.
“We have plans to lay the foundation stone for Mopa International airport in the first week of September along with the Electronic City at Tuem at the hands of Prime Minister Narendra Modi,” Parsekar said. “Our (Mopa) greenfield international airport is one of his flagship projects. He is continuously monitoring it,” he said.
The chief minister said the State has reached the fag end of the bidding process and the successful bidder would be announced soon. “Work on Mopa airport will be on schedule. The first phase will be commissioned exactly after three years of laying the foundation stone. If the foundation stone is laid in 2016, the first plane will land here in 2019,” Parsekar said.
The airport at Mopa will be the second such facility after Dabolim airport in the State.
