PANJIM: Goa Congress on Friday urged Prime Minister Narendra Modi to immediately revoke the appointment of Dattaprasad Lawande as the Assistant Solicitor General before the Bombay High Court at Goa.
Goa Pradesh Congress Committee (GPCC) spokesperson Durgadas Kamat in a letter written to Prime Minister has deplored the sudden appointment of Advocate General Atmaram Nadkarni’s close relative Lawande as the Assistant Solicitor General before the High Court.
Kamat has urged the prime minister to immediately revoke the appointment in public interest as this appointment was blatantly contrary to his mantra of ‘no nepotism’ while making appointments.
The letter, copies of which are marked to Union Law and Justice Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad and Minister of State for Tourism Shripad Naik, accuses the Goa Advocate General of illegally using his office to seek appointment of his relative Lawande.
Kamat said that despite Goa having so many senior and very experienced advocates, Nadkarni managed to manipulate and elevate his inexperienced relative Lawande as the Assistant Solicitor General. The Congress spokesman has pointed out that Lawande was earlier promoted as government advocate and additional public prosecutor.
Lawande’s appointment was done last week.
