MARGAO: South Goa MP Francisco Sardinha kicked off his election campaign from his home turf (Maina-Curtorim) on Saturday, exuding confidence of not only getting the party re-nomination, but also retaining the South Goa seat with the support of the people.
GPCC President John Fernandes said that Sardinha’s candidature for the South Goa seat is almost finalised, adding that he and leader of Opposition Pratapsing Rane are leaving for the national capital on Monday for a meeting to finalise candidates for the two Lok Sabha seats.
Both John and Sardinha said the people of Goa had taught the Congress a lesson for the past mistakes, but slammed the BJP for betraying the trust placed in the party by bringing about the parivartan. “We have learnt from our mistakes and the party is ready to apologize for the mistakes”, they said.
In his address, Sardinha said that only the Congress party can take Hindus, Christians and Muslims together when it comes to progress and development and
to maintain peace all throughout. “Gujarat is placed at the 10th position in terms of development. And Narendra Modi as Prime Minister will take the country behind by decades”, Sardinha said, while blaming Parrikar for closure of mining in the state.
The GPCC president blamed the Chief Minister for the U-turns on various issues plaguing the state.
John appealed to the party workers and supporters to join in large numbers for the March 11 rally at the Lohia Maidan.
Rachol Sarpanch Joseph Vaz said the Congress workers in both North and South Goa are waiting to come out to teach the BJP a lesson for the various sins of omission and commission in the last two years.
The meeting was addressed amongst others
by South Goa District Party President Subhash Faldesai, former Youth Congress President Pratima Coutinho,
Urfan Mulla and local
Congress leaders from Curtorim constituency.
