Environment and Forest Minister Prakash Javadekar was responding to Asaduddin Owaisi of Andhra Pradesh on his question on review of mining in Goa afresh from the environmental angle.
He also disclosed that the Coastal Regulation Zone Notification of 2011 is under review. A committee headed by Earth Sciences Secretary Dr Shailesh Nayak has been set up for the purpose. The governments of Maharashtra, Karnataka and Kerala have sought amendments in the notification, while inconsistencies and errors in the notification have also been brought to the notice of the ministry.
In reply to another question by R Dhruva Narayana, the minister said proposals of 300 infrastructure projects were pending with the ministry for the environment clearance, Gujarat topping with the highest 55 such proposals from Gujarat, followed by 35 from Andhra Prdesh, 34 from Maharashtra, 24 each from Karnaaka and Madhya Pradesh and 21 from Tamil Nadu. No such proposals are pending from Jammu and Kashmir, Goa, Bihar and the Northeastern States, except Assam, the minister added.
