PANJIM: With the Election Code of Conduct already in force, the advisory committee on Medium of Instruction (MoI) has deferred the meetings with school managing committees in South Goa to after February 4.
Member Secretary of the advisory committee, N G Honnekeri, confirmed that the meetings, scheduled at six different places, will be fixed post February 4, 2017. “Since the code of conduct is in force and polling is scheduled on February 4, we have postponed the taluka level meetings. The fresh dates and venues will be decided soon,” he told Herald.
Before the announcement of the code on January 4, the government-appointed committee had planned its first meeting at Canacona on January 10 followed by two meetings in Salcete on January 13 and January 17, and three other meetings on January 21, 30 and 31 at Mormugao, Sanguem and Dharbandora respectively.
The committee has already completed six meetings in North Goa even as it did not meet in December 2016 due to the busy academic period. After the taluka meetings, the advisory committee will also hold separate meetings with pro-English group Forum for Rights of Children to Education (FORCE) and regional language supporter Bharatiya Bhasha Suraksha Manch (BBSM) for their views, suggestions and objections.
In August last year the government had constituted the committee to advise on the issue of grants to English medium schools and to study the entire system of grants, financial support to government aided schools and to improve the overall efficiency for achieving education goals.
