PANJIM: Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar today assured to constitute a 15-member committee to examine the medium of instruction (MoI) issue within a week.
Speaking to reporters after the IIT Bombay Alumni convention at Dona Paula, on Sunday, he also said he doesn’t support a big team on the recommendation panel. The government has received names of 35 prominent citizens who have been associated with education for a long time, on MoI panel.
“The committee will be formed in the next one week. I don’t want a ‘too big’ committee. I will reduce it to 15 members (including himself as the chairman),” he said responding to a question.
The Directorate of Education, on July 11 moved a proposal for the constitution of MoI committee at primary school level. The state government had earlier decided to constitute committee as per the RTE Act 2009.
While the chief minister will be the chairman of the committee, the director of education will be the member secretary.
