Monsoon tourism promotion to kick off from Delhi today

PANJIM: Goa is set to roll the thunder of its nation wide monsoon tourism promotion campaigns beginning with New Delhi on Wednesday, June 12. The road shows and events will focus on raindrops, monsoon weddings and Meetings-Incentives-Conferences-Exhibitions (MICE).

The campaigns will be organised from North India to the South of the country till August 15, 2013.

A top official in the tourism ministry said, “Goa is a very attractive destination during the monsoons and promoting it in a big way in those States which are reeling under heat waves, can bring in tourists from all across the country to our State.”

After Delhi the road show will move to Punjab, Haryana, Gujarat, West Bengal, Kerala, Chennai, Andhra Pradesh and other metros.

Several stakeholders from the hotel industry, travel and tour agencies are also part of the Goa monsoon tourism promotion contingent and are scheduled to meet travel agents, tour operators in different States where Goa’s monsoon tourism will be promoted.

 “Cultural programmes depicting Goan folklore, Goan cuisine, artisans and other aspects of Goa tourism will also form part of the monsoon promotion campaigns,” said this official.

Presently Goa tourism has already begun e-campaigns through its website, Facebook, Tweeter and other social networking sites. Several contests are also being organised. Likewise visitors to the Goa monsoon promotion venues across the States will receive attractive offers.

 “We are expecting to receive a good response to this campaign,” said the official adding that one of the focus is on MICE where corporate houses could hold their conferences and activities in Goa at a time when rates are low and simultaneously give their employees a welcome break in Goa.

Goa Tourism Development Corporation will also be promoting its packages in addition to white water rafting which is scheduled to begin by June end. This is the first time that Goa is going all out to promote monsoon tourism from June to September.
