PANJIM: The work of construction of a six-lane link road (NH-166S) with paved shoulder configuration from Dhargalim to Mopa Airport on Engineering, Procurement and Construction (EPC) mode is likely to be completed by the end of March next year, a senior official of Public Works Department (PWD) said.
Speaking to O Heraldo, Allan J G Pereira, Chief Engineer, National Highways and Roads and Bridges, said that the sanctioned cost of this link road was around Rs 800 crore while Rs 770 crore was the tendered cost.
The road is being constructed by the Ashoka Buildcon Ltd. The Ashoka Buildcon Ltd had received a letter of award from the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH) in respect of the project in December 2021.
According to the official, the work was supposed to be completed by August 2023 but now it would be completed by March 2024. The road will be ready for vehicular movement by March next year, the official said.
Once the road is completed, it is likely to significantly reduce the travel time to reach Mopa International Airport from various cities of the State.
The greenfield airport at Mopa in Pernem taluka, North Goa district, was inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in December last year.
Union Minister Nitin Gadkari, who visited the state to inaugurate the second lane of Zuari Bridge, recently also reviewed the progress of various infrastructure projects in Goa, which included the link road to Manohar International Airport at Mopa.
