Justice for Vanita Gaonkar’ has been gaining momentum as NGO
Savera on Wednesday warned of a morcha if arrests are not made despite the
dying declaration from the deceased. It’s been nearly a week since Vinita died
after after she consumed poison following alleged harassment from her in-laws
demanding money from the Laadli Laxmi scheme.
Newly-wed Vanita Videsh Gaonkar died after consuming poison
on the September 31, eight days after being treated for at the Goa Medical
College and Hospital in Bambolim. Married to Videsh Gaonkar of Malkarne, it is
claimed that 23 year old Vanita had time and again informed her mother
regarding the harassment of the in-laws demanding money from the Laadli Laxmi
scheme. It has been alleged that due to this mounting harassment from her
in-laws, Vinita had to take the drastic decision of consuming poison. As her
death occurred within seven years of marriage, a magisterial inquiry will be
conducted by Shanker Gaonkar, deputy collector of Quepem. But it’s been nearly
a week since her death and no arrests have been made or FIR lodged against
anyone.
NGO Savera is however actively following up to give justice
to Vanita. Chairperson, Tara Kerkar warned of a morcha to the Deputy collector’s
office if arrests are not made despite the dying declaration from -deceased and
the statement from her mother.
