A total of 16 foreigners were arrested in 2014 for possessing drugs by the anti narcotic cell (ANC), says Congress quoting information made available by the police.
Congress spokesperson Durgadas Kamat has circulated a letter sent to him by the Director General of Police (DGP) which informs him about the formation of ANC task force to share the intelligence among the force and to jointly combat the menace of narcotics in Goa. Kamat had last month, through a communication demanded setting up of ANC task force in the State.
According to information, the number of foreigners arrested for possessing drugs is on the rise since 2013. While four foreigners were arrested in 2012, the number went up to six in 2013 and in 2014, 16 foreigners were arrested for possessing drugs.
On the other hand, there is a drop in the arrest of Indians for possessing drugs. In 2013, some 26 Indians were arrested with drugs. The number dropped to 16 last year.
A total 32 people were arrested in 2014, while cases were registered against 29. Around 25 kgs of drugs was confiscated by ANC last year.
The DGP has informed Congress about sincere efforts made by police to curb the narcotic drugs menace from the State.
