VASCO: The Mormugao Municipal Council (MMC) has finally decided to clear the abandoned vehicles within its jurisdiction. The MMC has decided to clear these vehicles by sending notices to owners or go ahead and auction these vehicles to clear roads.
MMC Chairperson Kritesh Gaonkar informed that abandoned two-wheelers and four-wheelers have been occupying valuable space for parking and also for traffic movement. “We have in a meeting decided to start the process to get these vehicles removed. The owners of these abandoned or dilapidated vehicles will be sent notices to remove the vehicles and park in their own spaces or condemn them,” Gaonkar said.
“I request the owners to remove the vehicles before the MMC starts the process. Else we will have to remove them ourselves and auction them,” he said.
The MMC plans to create pay parking spaces to make sure that there is vehicular parking discipline in the town. The MMC has also realised that the some persons having commercial vehicles have been using public roads to park their vehicles and operate business from there. The Mormugao Council has also announced that they would be keeping an eye on these vehicles too and would be taking action if the violation continues.
Councillor Saifulla Khan said, “The traffic cell of Vasco has to pay attention on the narrow lanes of Vasco where people from distant areas park vehicles in the town roads and keep the vehicles occupying road sides for all day.”
