VASCO: The Deputy Collector of Mormugao on Friday decided to write to the Inspectorate of Factories and Boilers asking for a joint inspection of Chicalim ice factory, in which Ammonia gas leakage occurred, on Thursday night.
The incident not only triggered panic amongst the nearby locals but also raised doubts about the people’s safety and precautionary measures now.

Speaking to the Herald, Deputy Collector Sachin Desai informed that on Thursday he was at the site where the Ammonia gas leakage took place and due to the in time attendance by the Fire safety personnel untoward incident or any human loss was averted.
He also mentioned that although there were no untoward incidents due to this accident but the question of safety also arises now. Therefore, will be writing to the Inspectorate of Factories and Boilers after the Zilla Parishad elections are over.
Desai also said that he will be asking for a joint inspection of this ice factory and will check whether the compliance of all the necessary parameters and permissions required to run this factory is being obeyed.
