VASCO: In a bid to generate revenues, the Mormugao Municipal Council (MMC) on Tuesday decided to set up and operate a petrol pump station in a barren land and also to introduce pay parking in the port town.
After chairing the council meeting, MMC chairperson Girish Borker said that for the last 15 to 20 years, many citizens have not paid their house tax while many traders had also not obtained trade licences thereby evading revenue of the municipality. He appealed to the citizens and traders to pay their taxes regularly failing with the municipal council will issue notices and seal such shops and offices.

“We have already sent notices to some traders asking them to obtain trade licences while others will be issued notices soon,” Borker said adding that the municipality need revenue to pay salary of the staff.
Borker said that council meeting also decided to set up a petrol pump in its 1,000 square metres of land. “The idea to start a petrol pump came during discussion with one of the oil companies. We have been spending Rs 5-6 lakh on fuel for municipal vehicles every month. We will now discuss with all oil companies and select the one which will offer best rates to the municipal council,” he said.
Borker further said that the meeting also decided to introduce pay parking in the port town.
