VASCO: The Mormugao Municipal Council on Tuesday said that they will be shifting the fishmongers encroaching on the road and footpath back to the old fish market soon. Chairperson Leo Rodriguez, councillor Shami Salkar, Market Committee’s president Vinod Kinlekar, member Damodar Naik and municipality’s inspector inspected the encroached area and notified the sellers about moving them to the old fish market.

Meanwhile, the vendors were also warned against the usage of thin plastic and some bags were also seized from them. The Chairperson said that stiff penalties would be imposed on those using plastic bags in the market.
The stalls on the road and footpath are creating hindrance to the pedestrians and motorists and complaints were also made regarding some fishermongers transacting business from the parking lot.
