VASCO: With the new breed of illegal motorcycle pilots cropping up at rapid pace in Vasco and Mormugao, the traditional motorcycle pilots fear losing their livelihood, as such, have demanded action against private motorcyclists for ferrying people to their destinations.
The demand was made during the inauguration of the shed constructed at Headland Sada for the Motorcycle Pilots Association of Mormugao, on Tuesday. The shed was constructed by Power Minister and Mormugao MLA Milind Naik.
“We have seen sudden decline in traditional motorcycle pilots in Vasco and Mormugao due to various reasons, but more importantly due the illegal operations of private persons using motorcycles to ferry passengers. In the past, we had made similar demands from the authorities concerned, however, no action was taken. Due to which illegal motorcycle pilots are cropping up at rapid pace in Vasco and Mormugao which is our major concern as we are losing business,” said Babu Asolkar, president of Vasco-Mormugao Motorcycle Pilots Association.
He said that due to lack of business, traditional motorcycle pilots are slowly giving up the occupation.
Therefore, he said that the association again made a representation before the traffic police as well as RTO seeking action against such illegal operators.
Meanwhile, after inaugurating the shed, Milind Naik assured to provide all necessary helps to the motorcycle pilots and resolve their issues. He said that he would soon call for a joint meeting with all the officials concerned to discuss and decide on the operations of illegal pilots in Vasco and Mormugao.
