MPs from defence committee visit naval installations

VASCO: A high-level delegation comprising 18 Members of Parliament constituting the Standing Committee of Defence (SCOD) visited naval installations at Goa, as part of a study tour.

VASCO: A high-level delegation comprising 18 Members of Parliament constituting the Standing Committee of Defence (SCOD) visited naval installations at Goa, as part of a study tour.
The purpose of the visit was to obtain an on-the-spot assessment and real-time appreciation of various naval and defence-related issues.
The delegation, headed by Maj General BC Khanduri, AVSM Retd was flown out in a smart convoy of naval helicopters from the naval air base at Dabolim to embark on the aircraft carrier INS Vikramaditya, where they were received by Vice Admiral Anil K Chopra, PVSM, AVSM, ADC, the Flag Officer Commanding in Chief, Western Naval Command.
Later, the delegation was demonstrated a charged-up display of combat readiness and fleet operations at sea, both by warships and naval aircraft. The SCOD was then briefed comprehensively about the role and functions of naval and maritime assets.
The delegation then visited the local Coast Guard Headquarters and the National Institute of Hydrography located within the naval premises at Vasco-da-Gama.
The National Institute of Hydrography is a premier training institute of worldwide acclaim, manned and run in a professional manner by the Indian Navy. The SCOD delegates were briefed about the importance of the Institute and they interacted with the trainee officers and sailors from Indian Navy and those from friendly foreign nations.
