VASCO: The Mormugao Port Trust (MPT) authorities on Wednesday completed the task of removing the diesel and lube oil that was present onboard the dry dock. Around 820 litres of diesel and 35 litres of lube oil was removed from the floating dry dock and now there is no threat of a oil spill. The dry dock will be salvaged after the monsoons.
Speaking to reporters, MPT Chairman I Jeyakumar said “There were apprehensions raised by the citizens about the possibility of a oil spill from the floating dry dock. The CM had asked MPT to provide details on the measures that would be taken to prevent an oil spill from the floating dry dock. We had informed him that there was no oil spill in the WISL dry dock however all precautionary measures would be taken to prevent it. As there was about 820 litres of diesel and 35 litres of lube oil on board the dry dock, MPT along with WISL have managed to remove the same on Wednesday.” Jeyakumar also said that the floating dry dock was on the sea bed and was stable and it would be salvage the vessel along with MV QING after the monsoons.
